5 Easy Ways To Be Better At What You Do

So, I often get to do several things on a daily basis and because of my work schedule and the nature of blog I run, I'm always on the look out to improve myself and become the best at what I do.

And it's quite interesting because most of the time, we don't often think of a job or what we do as a way to grow personally or professionally.

Every thing we do in life gives us the opportunity to grow and become.

Truth is, we all have made mistakes one way or the other that haven't exactly put us in the best light but one thing is sure, we certainly have to pick up ourselves and keep moving.

And you can't just afford to be dulling, you have to be better especially if you want to see changes. Life is truly a journey and becoming better at what we do should be an everyday goal.

So here are five top easy ways to go about it.

1.  Plan ahead

The importance of planning can not be over emphasized, we have to always think and plan ahead. You don't just show up at a thing unprepared and not ready, people won't take you seriously that way. Every night before you go to bed, you should have a list of your priorities for the following day. Have a schedule to know your next move or line of action. Don't just let life happen to you, be organized.

2. Don't be complacent about progress

Always strive to improve, don't feel so satisfied with your current level, own abilities or situation that you don't see the need to try any harder. Don't be a smug, seek progress daily no matter how hard it is.

3. Avoid distractions, stay focused

One of the biggest problems people face is distractions but If you really want to get ahead doing anything, you need to focus on your focus. If you know where you are headed and you really want to get there in time, you will be so focused on getting there that you would pay less or no attention to those who are trying to distract you.

4. Seek advice from those on same path with you

This can be done through their books, teachings, fellowships, events, one on one mentorship, partnerships, consultations, etc. No matter how good you are at what you do, you can't seem to know it all, the best way to advance or move forward in your career is to seek advice from those with similar passion and similar interests. You grow better and faster that way!

5. Turn your mistakes into stepping stones

This reminds me so much of the book 'Failing Forward' by John C. Maxwell (would be doing a review of the book soon), he said: "In life, the question is not if you will have problems, but how you are going to deal with your problems. If the possibility of failure were erased, what would you attempt to achieve?" He also went further to say, "the essence of man is imperfection. Know that you're going to make mistakes. The fellow who never makes a mistake takes his orders from one who does. Wake up and realize that failure is simply a price we pay to achieve success."

So, if you are succeeding in everything you do without making mistakes, then you're probably not pushing hard enough. Because, the more you do, the more you fail, the more you fail, the more you learn and the more you learn, the better you get. Mistakes really do pave the road to achievement.
