If you search your business name on Google right now, what kind of information will you find there? Will the result be positive or negative?
If you desire to build a strong online presence for your business and brand, then you need to have a Google My Business account.
Google My Business is a free business profile listing with Google that enhances online visibility for business owners and ensures their products and services are easily discovered by prospective buyers online.
With a Google My Business account, your customers and prospects are informed about your business’s necessary details. You can also connect and engage with them easily. This, in turn, builds trust and improves your brand’s credibility online.
Since a large percentage of people are using Google, it means a huge audience can view and access your profile online. The more visible you are — or the more often your business shows up in search results — the better your chances of drawing people’s attention to you.
If you want to:
- Increase the chances of being found by prospective customers
- Avoid losing more customers online and improve engagement
- Control the information that appears online about your business
- Gain access to the first search result that people see when searching for your business online
Then you need to claim your business on Google and get it verified. It’s quite easy if you follow the simple steps below.
How to claim your business name on Google
Step 1: Sign in to Google My Business
Go to google.com/business, then click on “Manage now” and sign in using your Google account. You must have a Gmail account to use any Google tool. If you don’t have a Gmail account, click here to create a new one.
Tip: Make sure you sign in with your business Gmail account

Step 2: Add your business name

Step 3: Type in your business name.
Tip: Make sure that the name you use here is the same as the one listed on your website, social media, and on all your signs and branding.

Step 4: Select a category that best suits your business.

Step 5: Select “Yes” if you have a physical location customers can visit.

Step 6: Fill in your address and tell people where to find you.
Tip: Turn on the location of your phone/computer so that Google map can easily find your address. If your business does not have a location customers can visit, but offers a service or delivery, you can list your service area.

Step 7: Select “This doesn’t match” to register your new address.

Step 8: Let your customers know if you deliver outside your location.

Step 9: Tell customers how they can get in touch with you.
Tip: Enter your business phone number and website address so customers can easily reach you. If you have a Facebook page rather than a website, you can add that instead.

Step 10: Click Finish to create your new account.
Tip: Click Yes if you would like to receive updates and notifications. Then click Finish. You will then be asked to verify your business.

Once you create your Google My Business (GMB) account, the next step will be to optimize and verify your business name so it can appear on Google search engine as shown in the picture below.
